Simple Babies...

When you welcome a new baby into your home there are really only two things that you need to know. The same two things they want from you... They need your love and care and of course to to be fed properly.

As a postpartum doula, my main focus in getting the new little family settled and comfortable, so then they can start to get to know one another. One of the ways I've chosen to do this is by showing parents how to read their little ones and respond accordingly. After the diaper change, after the feeding, after all the burps, newborns sometimes just don't settle. This could be quite traumatic for the first time parents. It's a terrible feeling not knowing how to stop the crying and fussiness. I remember that feeling!

At my fabulous postpartum doula certification workshop we learned about "Happiest Baby on the Block" Calming techniques taught by Harvy Karp MD. It's not that it is this new and exciting thing to try, it's just bringing all the little things our grandmothers have been doing for years together in a few easy steps.

I truly believe that this is something any parent can use, get results immediately and gain not only a calm and content baby but confidence in their parenting as well. There is certification for those of us who want to fully teach this. I happy to say I've sent in my paperwork and hope to hear back in a couple of weeks that I am certified and can begin teaching The 5 "S's"

And, I might even add to my studies by becoming a lacation counsler. Still thinking about this one...

Here you are with love: One full, happy, sleepy baby- just for you!
